Karan Vohra channels fitness and psychology to play the role of a narcissist in COLORS’ ‘Meri Bhavya Life’
Mumbai:Fitness isn’t just a passion for actor Karan Vohra—it’s his first love and an integral part of Rishank, the narcissistic character he plays on COLORS’ popular show ‘Meri Bhavya Life’ starring Prisha Dhatwalia in the titular role. The show follows the inspiring journey of Bhavya, a confident gold medallist architect who suffers rejection for marriage and is undermined at work because of the prejudice against her as a plus-size woman. She is the one who challenges Rishank’s superficial judgments about strength and beauty. While the storyline celebrates the power of acceptance and self-worth through Bhavya’s journey, it also offers a compelling look at what happens when self-love becomes toxic, as seen through Rishank’s rigid ideals. The coming-of-age drama is captivating audiences with his portrayal of a character whose life revolves around physical perfection, discipline, and a rigid belief system that equates worth with appearance. To bring Rishank’s obsession with fitness to life authentically, Karan underwent months of rigorous training, sticking to a strict diet and workout regimen, but he also dove into understanding the psychological makeup of someone who uses fitness as a shield against emotional vulnerabilities. His preparation included hitting the gym harder and reading up on Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) to give Rishank the depth of a character who, beneath his confident exterior, is driven by insecurities and a chronic need for validation.
Karan Vohra, who plays Rishank in COLORS’ Meri Bhavya Life, shares: _“Fitness has always been more than just a routine for me—it’s a way of life. Having worked in the fitness industry, I see staying active not just as a physical practice but as a form of discipline and grounding. But Rishank isn’t your typical gym bro. His obsession with fitness stems from a need for control, perfection, and external validation. To portray him authentically, I had to go beyond the aesthetics. I spent time understanding narcissistic personality traits—not to judge, but to grasp the emotional blind spots that drive him. He’s not evil—he’s insecure, performative, and terrified of losing the image he’s built his identity around. Playing Rishank let me explore that contradiction: someone who appears sorted on the outside but is falling apart within. As Karan, I’ve always believed that seerat- a person’s soul and character—matters more than soorat. But Rishank believes the exact opposite. That contrast is what makes this role so compelling for me.”_
