Harleen Reikhi: “Talking about mental health gives us the courage to heal and move forward
Mumbai:Actress Harleen Reikhi, who is currently seen in Kamdhenu Gaumata and is also a part of Binddii, shared her heartfelt thoughts on the importance of mental well-being.
“Mental health is a topic that really needs attention,” says Harleen. “Whether you’re doing well in your career or going through a low phase, mental health affects everyone. Many times, it’s not even about work — it’s about not having someone to talk to. We get so overworked and overwhelmed that it becomes stressful and unpredictable.”
The actress feels that instead of labeling someone as depressed, people should try to understand the root cause of their emotions. “Sometimes all a person needs is someone to listen, to bring a bit of humor, or to simply let them be in their own space. Small gestures like spending time with them or showing empathy can make a huge difference,” she shares.
Speaking about modern pressures, Harleen adds, “Social media plays a huge role in affecting our mental well-being. I’ve learned that it’s important to stop listening to every opinion and stop overthinking. Seek clarity, not confusion. Meditation helps, and if needed, one should definitely consult a therapist or talk to someone who has gone through similar experiences. Treat it early — don’t wait for it to worsen.”
She also emphasizes the importance of openness among public figures. “When celebrities open up about their mental health, I feel it should be appreciated, not judged. Everyone goes through ups and downs. Talking about it gives us courage — the courage to heal and to move forward,” Harleen concludes.
