Mumbai:Political activity in BMC Ward 212 has intensified with the entry of Amrin Shehzad Abrahani from the Samajwadi Party, creating a direct challenge to the sitting corporator. A recently viral video has sparked discussion by highlighting what it calls fifteen years of unresolved civic issues in the ward.The video opens with “5 + 5 + 5 = 0”, pointing to three consecutive terms of the current leadership and suggesting that basic development has not kept pace with public expectations. It features visuals of pothole-ridden roads, overflowing drains, garbage accumulation and poorly maintained school infrastructure, reflecting long-standing concerns of residents.Amrin Abrahani is introduced as an educated homemaker and entrepreneur who has been working in the areas of women’s safety, education and community welfare. Her candidacy carries weight because the Abrahani family is well known in this part of Mumbai. The political shift began when former MLA Yusuf Abrahani left the Congress and joined the Samajwadi Party, signalling the party’s intention to strengthen its presence in Muslim dominated areas.Ex MLA himself, Yusuf Abrahani appears in the video along with his son and social worker Shehzad and openly supports Amrin. The campaign is also aligned with the wider organisational push led by SP Maharashtra President Abu Asim Azmi and Byculla MLA Rais Shaikh, both of whom are focusing on expanding the party’s influence at the ward level ahead of the municipal elections.The viral video is being viewed as the first public introduction of Amrin Shehzad Abrahani as Ward 212 prepares for a competitive electoral battle.
