Star-Studded Launch of Bina Aziz-Curated Alchemy of Light Marries Art, Glamour and Metallic Grandeur

The exclusive preview and inauguration of Alchemy of Light, a group exhibition curated by artist Bina Aziz, unfolded as a glittering, star-studded evening at Les Trésors Art Gallery, Atria Mall, Worli, bringing together art, culture, design and cinema under one luminous roof.

The exhibition was inaugurated at the hands of the Chief Guest Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha (Hon’ble Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Maharashtra), setting the tone for an evening that celebrated creativity, craftsmanship and contemporary expression.

The launch witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries including Shri Rajesh Aggarwal (Chief Secretary, Maharashtra), Ms Beena Santosh (Commissioner of Income Tax), Shri Manu Kumar Shrivastava (Chief Commissioner, Right to Service), IPS Dr Nikhil Gupta (Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra Law & Order) along with Dr Shalini Gupta, IPS Anil Kumbhare (Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Mumbai), and acclaimed filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.

The evening was further elevated by a distinguished gathering from the worlds of cinema, art and society including Jackie Shroff, Padmini Kolhapure, Poonam Dhillon, Ranjeet Bedi, Naaz, Madhoo, Neelam Kothari, Talat Aziz, Shehzad Khan, Simone Arora, Shaina NC, Manish Munot, Farzana Contractor, Dolly Thakore, Kailash and Aarti Surendranath, Maheka Mirpuri, Rickey and Laila Lamba, Dr Hrishikesh and Dr Rishma Pai, Mickey and Samanaz Mehta, Namrata Dalal, Jimmy and Delna Mistry, Parvez and Roshni Damania, Satish and Gitika Kishinchandani, Ashita Tham, Sangita Jain, Himanshu Patil, Bhavna Roy, Sonali Ambardekar, Neeraj and Minal Bajaj, Rajyalaxmi Rao, Malti Jain, Neerja and Ruhan Kapoor, among many others, adding both glamour and gravitas to the artistic showcase.

The exhibition featured a compelling line-up of artists including Bina Aziz (Curator-Artist), Arzan Khambatta, Laila Khan, Archana Srivastava (Gallerist-Artist), Jaya Lamba, Sharvari Luth, Shola Carletti and Venkatesh Pate, alongside noted artists such as Gurcharan Singh, Jaideep Mehrotra, Kahini Arte, Ravi Mandlik and Ashok Salian, each bringing their own distinctive interpretation to the theme of light.

Through paintings, sculptural works and contemporary expressions, Alchemy of Light explores the many ways light transforms perception, emotion and space. Each artist approaches the theme uniquely, allowing viewers to experience light not only as a visual element but also as a metaphor for hope, awakening and creative energy.

A defining highlight of the exhibition is the use of gold, silver, copper and champagne leafing, presented in collaboration with Shehzad Khan of Midas Touch. These metallic elements lend a rich, tactile brilliance to the works, elevating the visual narrative and reinforcing the exhibition’s central idea of transformation through light.

What stood out at the launch was the seamless coming together of people from varied worlds—artists, architects, builders, singers, film personalities and members of the social circuit—creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the show.

Alchemy of Light, curated by Bina Aziz, will remain on display at Les Trésors Art Gallery, Atria Mall, Worli, until May 11, open daily from 11 am to 8 pm.
