Azamgarh. In a tragic accident, a 20-year-old woman drowned in the famous Pauhari Baba Sarovar in Saraiya village, located in the Atraulia police station area of the district, on Friday morning. The incident caused chaos in the temple complex and surrounding the lake.

Police arrived on the scene, assisted by local residents, retrieved the body, took it into custody, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The deceased’s family is inconsolable. According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Kusum Devi (20), a resident of Niva village in Ambedkar Nagar district. She had come to Saraiya with other family members to offer prayers at the famous Pauhari Baba temple.
While visiting the lake, she suddenly slipped and fell into the deep water. Eyewitnesses reported that the lake’s steps had been covered in moss for a long time, making them slippery. As Kusum began descending the stairs, she lost her balance and fell into the water. Seeing the incident, nearby devotees and villagers raised an alarm and immediately jumped into the water to rescue her, but by then she had already drowned. Upon receiving news of the incident,

a large number of villagers and devotees gathered at the scene. After considerable effort, the young woman was pulled from the lake with the help of locals, but by then she had already died. This caused chaos within the entire family. The family was inconsolable, weeping inconsolably,
and people present at the scene were seen consoling them. Upon receiving the information, the Atraulia police station also arrived at the scene. The police completed the necessary legal procedures, prepared an inquest report, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the cause of the incident has been initiated.

Station in-charge Devendra Nath Dubey stated that the young woman’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Prima facie, the case appears to have been caused by drowning due to slipping into the lake. Further legal action will be taken after the post-mortem report is received. At the same time, after the incident, the local people have also raised the demand for regular cleaning of the moss accumulated on the stairs of the lake and strengthening of the security arrangements.
