Special program on sickle cell disease awareness campaign concluded at Swat Indira Gandhi Upazila Government Hospital

Bhiwandi – In Bhiwandi Swa.Indira Gandhi Upazila Government Hospital organized a special program under a special awareness campaign to prevent sickle cell disease under free blood test test. Hospital superintendent Dr. The laboratory department under the guidance of Madhavi Pandhare successfully completed this program. And sickle cell is a genetic disease, which is caused by an abnormal chromosome.
In this disease, the red blood cells change shape and become lumpy, which reduces the elasticity of the cells and causes complications in blood flow. Regular blood tests and genetic tests are necessary to identify and treat this disease. All patients aged 0 to 40 years at Indira Gandhi Smriti Hospital have blood tests done through Maha Lab. Apart from this, electrophoresis test of pregnant women is done free of charge by Krasna Diagnostics. During the programme, Scientific Officer of Laboratory Department Devidas Shetge appealed to the citizens, especially pregnant women, to get sickle cell test done. Those found healthy in the test were provided with a white card, while the blood samples of the patients found positive were sent for HB Electrophoresis test. Rajendra Shinde played an important role in making this awareness campaign a success, while Anil Wagh took blood samples for sickle cell screening. Thus, this campaign organized in Bhiwandi with the aim of prevention and early diagnosis of sickle cell disease proved to be a commendable initiative.
