Mumbai: To address the annual economic loss of nearly ₹12 lakh crore caused by corrosion, the stainless steel industry has urged the Government of India to introduce a National Stainless Steel Policy and launch a National Anti-Corrosion Mission. The demand was raised during the strategic partnership announcement between the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) and the Global Stainless Steel Expo (GSSE).

Rajamani Krishnamurthi, President of ISSDA, said, “India has the potential to become a global stainless steel hub, but this requires a dedicated national policy and strong policy support.” He pointed out that India’s per capita stainless steel consumption is only 3.5 kg, compared to the global average of 6–7 kg. According to him, “Corrosion results in economic losses equivalent to nearly 4% of India’s GDP. A well-defined policy framework and greater adoption of corrosion-resistant materials can significantly reduce these losses.”

Meanwhile, Rajeev Garg, Group Head at Jindal Stainless Limited, said, “With rising imports and challenges related to raw materials, this is the time for the industry to present a united voice.” He emphasized that stainless steel is a durable, environmentally sustainable, and cost-effective material over the long term, and therefore deserves a distinct policy framework.

The industry believes that a dedicated National Stainless Steel Policy and a National Anti-Corrosion Mission would strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce dependence on imports, and accelerate India’s journey toward becoming a global hub for advanced stainless steel production.

मुंबई: देश में जंग (करॉजन) से हर साल होने वाले करीब ₹12 लाख करोड़ के आर्थिक नुकसान को रोकने के लिए स्टेनलेस स्टील उद्योग ने केंद्र सरकार से राष्ट्रीय स्टेनलेस स्टील नीति और राष्ट्रीय एंटी-करॉजन मिशन लागू करने की मांग की है। यह मांग इंडियन स्टेनलेस स्टील डेवलपमेंट एसोसिएशन (ISSDA) और ग्लोबल स्टेनलेस स्टील एक्सपो (GSSE) की रणनीतिक साझेदारी के अवसर पर उठाई गई।

आईएसएसडीए के अध्यक्ष राजामणि कृष्णमूर्ति ने कहा, “भारत के पास वैश्विक स्टेनलेस स्टील हब बनने की क्षमता है, लेकिन इसके लिए अलग राष्ट्रीय नीति और ठोस नीतिगत समर्थन जरूरी है।” उन्होंने बताया कि देश में प्रति व्यक्ति स्टेनलेस स्टील की खपत केवल 3.5 किलोग्राम है, जबकि वैश्विक औसत 6-7 किलोग्राम है। उनके अनुसार, “करॉजन के कारण जीडीपी का करीब 4 प्रतिशत नुकसान होता है, जिसे सही नीति और जंग-रोधी सामग्री के उपयोग से काफी हद तक रोका जा सकता है।”

वहीं, जिंदल स्टेनलेस लिमिटेड के ग्रुप हेड राजीव गर्ग ने कहा, “बढ़ते आयात और कच्चे माल की चुनौतियों के बीच उद्योग की सामूहिक आवाज को मजबूत करने का समय आ गया है।” उन्होंने कहा कि स्टेनलेस स्टील टिकाऊ, पर्यावरण-अनुकूल और दीर्घकालिक लागत बचाने वाली सामग्री है, इसलिए इसे अलग नीतिगत पहचान मिलनी चाहिए।उद्योग का मानना है कि नई नीति और एंटी-करॉजन मिशन से घरेलू विनिर्माण को बढ़ावा मिलेगा, आयात पर निर्भरता घटेगी और भारत उन्नत स्टेनलेस स्टील उत्पादन का वैश्विक केंद्र बनने की दिशा में तेज़ी से आगे बढ़ सकेगा।
