Ambedkar Nagar: Criminal Asif Ali, carrying a reward of 1 lakh rupees, was killed in a police encounter in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday morning. He was a resident of Dhuraiya village under the Bilour police station in Kanpur. The encounter took place near Jagdishpur village. After being shot, Asif alias Vicky was taken to the hospital where he died. A police officer was injured during the encounter. The UP STF unit reported that Asif had robbed a house in Jaunpur in 2014, killing two people during the robbery. Asif was the leader of the Chhaymar gang. The Jaunpur police had announced a reward of 1 lakh rupees on him. He had been eluding police custody for several years.
Asif opened fire on a police team
Police stated that, acting on information from an informant, a police team surrounded Asif. He opened fire on the police team. Police returned fire in self-defense, leaving Asif seriously injured. Doctors declared him dead at the hospital.
Weapons recovered from Asif
The UP STF stated that police recovered a .32-bore pistol, a .13-bore country-made pistol, and a large quantity of cartridges from Asif.
He had murdered a husband and wife in Kaushambi
Asif had committed major crimes in several districts other than Jaunpur. In 2013, he entered a house in Sultanpur with 10 accomplices and committed a robbery. He held the entire family hostage and looted the house. He also murdered a family member who resisted. Additionally, he and his gang members committed a house robbery in Kaushambi in 2015. They held the entire family hostage and murdered a husband and wife.

Asif, along with his gang, committed a house robbery in Rasulabad, Kanpur Dehat, in 2021. Police in several districts, including Jaunpur, were searching for him.
